SERBIA AND THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION ATTEND THE EGPA 2026 CONFERENCE IN ROME FOR THE FIRST TIME

The Director of the National Academy of Public Administration is participating in the 51^st Annual Conference of the European Group for Public Administration (EGPA 2026), being held at Sapienza University of Rome from 24 to 27 August 2026.

Entitled “Public Governance for the Common Good: Human Intelligence in the Service of the Global Community,” the conference will bring together more than 600 representatives of public administration, academia and international organisations from Europe and around the world to exchange knowledge, experience and contemporary approaches in the fields of public governance, public policy and public administration reform.

This participation is particularly significant for Serbia, as this is the first time that the country has attended this important international gathering, in the same year in which the National Academy of Public Administration became a member of the European Group for Public Administration (EGPA). The Academy’s membership represents an important step towards strengthening international cooperation and creates new opportunities for closer links between Serbia and the European network of public administration institutions and experts, as well as for the exchange of knowledge, experience and best practices.

The conference is particularly significant because it addresses the future of public administration amid accelerating digitalisation and the increasingly widespread use of artificial intelligence. Although new technologies offer considerable opportunities to improve public services, institutional efficiency and decision-making, the conference’s central message is that human judgement, professional and moral responsibility, and collective reflection on the public interest remain indispensable to effective and responsible governance.

The conference programme encompasses numerous thematic areas devoted to e-government and artificial intelligence, public-sector performance, local and regional governance, public policy, strategic management, the professionalisation of public administration, digital transformation, innovation, accountability and collaborative governance.

The participation of the Director of the National Academy of Public Administration provides an important opportunity to exchange experience with institutions and experts from various European countries and to present Serbia’s experience in the professional development of public servants and the enhancement of public administration capacity.

A particular benefit of such international gatherings lies in connecting public administration institutions, experts and education systems, as well as in identifying new approaches that can contribute to the further development of a professional, efficient, digitally advanced and citizen-oriented public administration.

The conference is organised by the European Group for Public Administration (EGPA), the European regional group of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), and Sapienza University of Rome, which is hosting the event.
